Case Studies: Government RMS Heritage Bridge Projects

GSF provided various standard and specialised components such as high strength, high tensile eye bolts and CNC machined hex bolts for NSW, RMS Government Heritage Bridge projects including – Barham Bridge and Glennies Creek Bridge.

Barham Bridge Project (completed 2018)
The restoration of the Barham Koondrook Bridge over the Murray River was completed in 2018. The NSW and Victorian Government combined in funding this 25 million essential Maintenance work project to ensure the bridge would continue to meet the current vehicle loads and volumes as well as the growing needs of the local and traveling community in the future.

The Barham Koondrook Bridge is one of the oldest lift span bridges on the Murray River. It is listed on the NSW State Heritage register and had to be retained for its heritage value. GSF worked with RMS throughout the project to provide products that adhered to quality, heritage, testing and required standards.

Glennies Creek Bridge Project

GSF worked with RMS throughout the Glennies Creek Bridge Upgrade project to provide products that adhered to quality, heritage, testing and required standards.

NSW Government funded the strengthening of the 114-year-old Glennies Creek Bridge structure to meet modern standards and ensure key heritage elements were preserved. It was part of a $145 million commitment by the NSW Government towards the Bridges for the Bush program to improve road freight productivity and reduce timber bridge maintenance costs.

Originally built in 1904, it was restored and strengthened to ensure it continues to meet the required vehicle load standards while preserving its heritage features and continued safe operation for motorists and the local community.
